Group Business
The SC Assn. of the Deaf will host a four-day meeting for 100 people in Anderson this August. On July 10th, we’ll host a 100-boat American Bass Anglers Tournament on Lake Hartwell. Also in July, we’ll host a motorcoach tour from the AME Zion Church in Charlotte. We also have bids out for: South Carolina Bar Continuing Legal Education – Seminars in 2010; Manufactured Housing Institute of SC – Seminar in 2011 and AARP South Carolina – seminars – 2011.

Lake Hartwell 660 Coalition

The group seeking to change the lake’s management plan is off and running. More than 200 people attended its kick-off meeting in May. Research, education and communications committees have been formed. The group has also launched a website www.LakeHartwell660.com. The CVB serves on the 660 Steering Committee. 660 represents the full-pool elevation of the lake.
Anderson County Hotel Association

Hoteliers in Anderson County and the CVB have formed the Anderson County Hotel Association. It’s meeting monthly to discuss the tourism business and ways everyone can work together to put more heads in beds. Amos Harper, Supervisor of the SC Welcome Center in Fair Play was the guest speaker at the group’s June meeting.
Belton=Chili
A group in Belton is planning a nationally sanctioned chili cook-off for April 17, 2010. The event will have three divisions: professional, restaurant and amateur. The CVB is serving on the planning committee for the event.
Jim Rice Days

Anderson native Jim Rice will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame later this month. A two-day celebration of Rice’s accomplishment will be held in Anderson September 3-4. Thursday, September 3, the Greenville Drive will hold Jim Rice Night, with Jim throwing out the first pitch. A golf tournament is planned for September 4th. Jim will also be honored at the Westside High School football game that evening. The CVB is on the planning committee for the event.
