Group BusinessThe SC Assn. of the Deaf will host a four-day meeting for 100 people in Anderson this August. On July 10th, we’ll host a 100-boat American Bass Anglers Tournament on Lake Hartwell. Also in July, we’ll host a motorcoach tour from the AME Zion Church in Charlotte. Just click on the above links to check them out.Lake Hartwell 660 Coalition________________________________________The group seeking to change the lake’s management plan is off and running. More than 200 people attended its kick-off meeting in May. Research, education and communications committees have been formed. The group has also launched a website www.LakeHartwell660.com. The CVB serves on the 660 Steering Committee. 660 represents the full-pool elevation of the lake.Anderson County Hotel Association________________________________________Hoteliers in Anderson County and the CVB have formed the Anderson County Hotel Association. It’s meeting monthly to discuss the tourism business and ways everyone can work together to put more heads in beds. Amos Harper, Supervisor of the SC Welcome Center in Fair Play was the guest speaker at the group’s June meeting.Belton=ChiliA group in Belton is planning a nationally sanctioned chili cook-off for April 17, 2010. The event will have three divisions: professional, restaurant and amateur. The CVB is serving on the planning committee for the event.Jim Rice Days________________________________________Anderson native Jim Rice will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame later this month. A two-day celebration of Rice’s accomplishment will be held in Anderson September 3-4. Thursday, September 3, the Greenville Drive will hold Jim Rice Night, with Jim throwing out the first pitch. A golf tournament is planned for September 4th. Jim will also be honored at the Westside High School football game that evening. The CVB is on the planning committee for the event.

The Anderson Convention & Visitors Bureau today reported its best first quarter in history for group sales. “17 different conferences, sports tournaments, events and motorcoach bus tours were booked from January-March,” said Glenn Brill, Executive Director. Combined, these events “will fill 1,081 hotel room nights, bring 4,726 people to Anderson County and create a direct economic impact of $129,720” according to CVB Sales Manager Kathy Benson.

The Anderson Convention & Visitors Bureau today unveiled its 2009 Anderson County Visitors Guide. “The 24-page, full color magazine-style publication is the comprehensive overview of Anderson and Anderson County for tourists,” said Glenn Brill, Executive Director.

In 2007, tourists spent $130 million in Anderson County, a 4% increase from the $125 million they spent in 2006 according to a new study from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism.
